Afforestation for sustainable development and value creation

The establishment of a biodiverse permanent mixed forests is the long-term objective of the project and the acacia rotation is only a preparatory step which is meant to increase the quality of the compacted and degraded soil. Once the soil quality has increased sufficiently to allow for planting of a biodiverse tropical permanent cover forest, it is proposed to do so. To reflect this long-term planning, the land will be leased for 30 years (with an option to terminate the lease after the first rotation if desired) which will enable up to 2 acacia rotations. A total of 645 varieties of plants and animals have been found on the program area. This demonstrates that the area has a high biodiversity potential which will help to establish biodiverse mixed forests over the long term.
